Some things to keep in mind when sending your quilts for quilting services.
Quilt top prep
When submitting your top there are a few things that you can do to make the process go a little smoother.
Trim loose threads on the back.
Make sure seams are pressed and not bunched together or bulky (as much as possible).
Ensure seams are properly stitched together and don’t have any skips or gaps.
Backing Fabric
There are a few things to think about when selecting and sending in your backing fabric.
In order to load the top, batting, and backing onto the quilter properly, your backing fabric will need to extend beyond the top by 4” on each side, at minimum. (If your quilt top measures 80”x90” then you’ll want your backing fabric to measure 88”x98”)
Is it pieced and seams pressed flat? Threads trimmed?
Is your backing fabric directional and needing to face a certain direction?
Batting
I have several batting options pending the warmth requirements and fluffiness desired.
80/20 -Cotton/Poly blend: Used for most projects, medium warmth and fluff. Washes and handles wear well.
Wool Blend: Used for projects where you really want the quilting to show. Fluffier quilt, lightweight and very warm. Washes and handles wear decently, but not as well as Cotton/Poly. A tad more expensive.
100% Cotton: Used for those who prefer 100% Cotton in a more traditional quilting style.
There are several choices for binding as to whether you want the binding created, attached, or stitched by hand. See the Services page for binding info.
